Governor’s Obsession with Disney May Unintentionally Empower Democratic Hopefuls.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been embroiled in a bitter feud with Disney, the powerful entertainment and tourism giant. DeSantis announced a series of retaliatory actions against the company, including the possibility of constructing on the forty square miles of land that border Disney’s property. This move has the potential to inadvertently benefit Democratic candidates as Disney may pour millions into their campaigns in retaliation for DeSantis’ actions.

DeSantis’ fight with Disney began early in 2022 when the company publicly stated it would work to repeal the Parental Rights in Education Act, a controversial piece of legislation dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by its opponents. DeSantis has defended the legislation and framed his fight as “protecting children,” claiming that Disney overstepped the bounds of the voters’ will in Florida.
