Humanity is Made Up of People Who Make Mistakes

You Are Not a Mistake Just Because You Made a Mistake.

We’ve all been there. We make a mistake, and instead of taking responsibility for it, we blame ourselves. We might even believe we are a mistake just because we made a mistake. But the truth is, being human means being imperfect. We all make mistakes, and the key to growth and learning is to hold ourselves with compassion when we do.

Mistakes come in all shapes and sizes. We might make a numerical error in our bookkeeping or choose not to our advantage. We might be involved with someone who turns out to be toxic or unsuitable, or we might pursue business or financial decisions that cause us problems. We might even burn the toast! But whatever the mistake, it’s important to acknowledge it without concluding that we are a mistake.

Acknowledging our mistakes without blaming ourselves takes courage and self-worth. It means recognizing that we are human and capable of making mistakes. When we have low self-esteem, we might try to protect ourselves by insisting that bad things are only the other person’s fault. But this blame and shame doesn’t help us learn and grow. Instead, it keeps us stuck in a cycle of self-judgment and self-criticism.
