We all carry bags from the past. No, I’m not talking about that old gym bag collecting dust under your bed. I’m talking about emotional baggage. And for some, these bags are heavy, filled with past traumas that shape their present in ways we can’t always see at first glance.

Imagine this: Jamie meets Alex, and they hit it off instantly. As they explore deeper waters in their relationship, Jamie learns that Alex experienced severe bullying as a child. Suddenly, small behaviors make more sense. Why Alex hesitates to voice opinions. Why crowded places feel overwhelming. Why cruel jokes are a no-go.

Past traumas are, unfortunately, not rare. A staggering statistic from the National Council for Behavioral Health states that 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some traumatic event at least once in their lives. That’s around 223.4 million people! Chances are, someone close to you, perhaps even your partner, is navigating this challenging terrain.

So, what do you do when love is mixed with the shadows of old wounds?
