The impact of childhood trauma is a subject that has been gaining prominence in recent years, as more and more research is shedding light on the lasting effects that adverse experiences can have on our lives. Childhood trauma can include a wide range of experiences, from emotional or physical abuse to neglect, and the effects of these experiences can ripple through our lives in profound ways.

  1. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly two-thirds of children have experienced at least one traumatic event before turning 18, with one in four experiencing multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
  2. The National Child Traumatic Stress Network estimates that by the age of 16, two-thirds of children in the United States will have experienced a traumatic event.
  3. A study published in JAMA Pediatrics revealed that children with four or more ACEs were 32 times more likely to have learning or behavior problems compared to those with no ACEs.
