The Orgasm Gap: How to Bridge the Divide in Heterosexual Relationships
The orgasm gap is pervasive in heterosexual sexual relationships that often go unnoticed. It refers to the unequal frequency women, and men experience orgasm during sexual activity.
The research shows that men are more likely to orgasm during sexual encounters than women, particularly in heterosexual relationships. However, this gap can be reduced if more attention is given to clitoral stimulation during penile-vaginal intercourse.
According to a national study of over 1,000 American women, 59 percent reported engaging in non-clitoral stimulation-free intercourse less than half the time. However, the rate of orgasm significantly rises when clitoral stimulation is added, and most women report that they orgasm most of the time. This suggests that women are not experiencing orgasms during penile-vaginal intercourse due to a lack of clitoral stimulation.
The research shows that there are numerous ways of animating the clitoris during intercourse, including the use of vibrators, utilizing your own or your partner’s hands, or switching up your sexual position.
