Love and connection are fundamental to the human condition but can also be elusive. Despite our innate desire for them, we often push them away or defend ourselves from getting hurt. In addition, the distractions and addictions of modern life can make it even harder to stay present and open to the opportunities for love and connection that arise.
According to psychotherapist Dr. Samantha Johnson, one of the biggest obstacles to receiving love is our own internal barriers.
Our core beliefs about ourselves and the world around us can get in the way of allowing ourselves to be vulnerable and open to love,” she explains. “Past hurts and traumas can also make us feel unworthy or undeserving of love and prevent us from fully receiving it.”
