The problem with this is that Medium makes money from our external views. So, while I understand not wanting ads, let me put it in perspective: we write for Medium and keep things the way they are while they profit off our talents, or do we look for a change on the platform? I write on several platforms. On Newsbreak, which does have an ad-based program, I make several thousand a month. On Medium, I've only made $6. Yet the company is basking in cash. Maybe in the past, this company was a sanctuary of camaraderie among writers. Now it's a profit machine unwilling to share anything with us, and we are its content creators. Recently, the CEO reluctantly admitted that only 7% of writers make over $100. You can't tell me that the other 93% suck. Nah. Capitalism is at work here. But the kind of capitalism at the end of the 1800s.
